- Spanking Goddess Book Launch 2027
Dublin, IMMA March 16 2027; UK launch Spring 2027; USA launch Oct 2027
Dublin, Bristol & USA
The Spanking Goddess & Other Discarded Tales will be published by New Island Books. Spring 2027.Irish myths for the 21st century, full of bad-ass deities, feral fighters, unorthodox sex, hairy bodies and goddess-on-goddess battles.
In The Spanking Goddess & Other Discarded Tales, Clare Murphy exhumes the Celtic canon to bring the wild stories that never made the cut, back into the light. A shapeshifter spanks her opponent, twelve fathers raise a girl to be a Fianna captain, a queen balances on the point of a spear, a man uses music and sex to heal a broken soul, heroes are defeated by mother-daughter warriors and a woman is the first person to settle Ireland.
These are not our regular myths. Rather they are subversive tales, not for the fainthearted and definitely for grownups.
As soon as we have pre-order dates we’ll link to it right here (probably November)

Myths. Mischief. Migration. The new show from storyteller and guest on The Blindboy Podcast, Clare Murphy (The Spanking Goddess & Other Discarded Tales, The Liar King)
At the edge of Europe sit a bunch of islands, forming a chaotic stone path out into the vast Atlantic ocean. These islands have always been inhabited by those who came by boat.
We arrived as seekers, invaders, siblings, refugees and even lovers. We fulfilled prophecies, dodged floods, escaped forced marriages, and pulled our fate from the stars.
A wild night of storytelling fusing myth, migration and scientific musings.
You’d be mad to miss it.
Running Time: 90 mins (with interval)
Suitable for: Ages 14+
Tickets: £14

The Spanking Goddess & Other Discarded Tales
Stellar storyteller Clare Murphy exhumes the Celtic canon to bring the wild women who never made the cut, back into the light. A shapeshifter spanks her opponents, a queen balances on the point of a spear, a goddess is caught in a face-off with death, heroes are defeated by mother-daughter warriors, and we witness the first divorce…and the woman won.
These are not your regular myths. Expect wicked tales of badass deities, feral fighters, unorthodox sex, hairy bodies, mastery, and goddess-on-goddess battles – not for the faint-hearted and definitely for grown-ups.
“Masterly storytelling!“

The Liar King
Set in Syria, phenomenal storyteller and guest on The Blindboy Podcast, Clare Murphy (The Spanking Goddess & Other Discarded Tales) weaves a witty satire on the nature of power and stupid kings
In Damascus a king is desperate to keep his throne, a citizen is determined to win a life and Syria is at the mercy of a lie-obsessed king. Girls face monsters, beggars face kings and no one knows which liar will win. The Liar King is an adaptation of the novel Damascus Nights by exiled Syrian writer, Rafik Schami.
Clare blends contemporary reporting and folklore with her playful wit to unmask who has the real power in the world.
