Storytelling: A Foundation Course

Saturday & Sunday: 9am - 5pm

This 2-day weekend course delivered in Brigit's Garden, Galway, provides a foundation in storytelling skills for leaders, teachers, managers, social entrepreneurs; for anyone who wants to use story more effectively in their professional life.

(Not for professional storytellers & performers)

In two days you will:

• Bring stories to life
• Learn how to turn an experience into a story
• Story Mining Technique (so that you have more than one or two stories)
• Decreases bad habits: Tangents, saying too much, verbal & physical tics
• Increase improvisation skills
• Reduce & manage nerves
• Improve voice clarity and impact
• Increase your presence and rapport with audience (from 1-100 people)
• Learn to hone, edit and adapt stories

This course is for you if you have some/no experience telling stories and are eager to improve.

You will leave this course with:

• More confidence on how to tell stories in your work
• Knowledge on how to keep developing your ability to tell stories
• An increased story repertoire to draw from
• A list of useful resources

We will use stories of your lived experience as well as some folktales/fables/wisdom tales where relevant.

Foundation Skills include:

• Improved relationship to audience
• A toolkit of storytelling skills
• Editing stories for impact
• Discover your storytelling style

Friday night 7pm - 9pm we'll have an informal meet and greet to get to know each other, somewhere in Galway city. Location TBD. Feel free to join and meet the other participants, ask any questions and get yourself settled in for a fab weekend of story and development.

About your Teacher:
An accomplished storyteller for 18 years, Clare has been teaching since 2007. She is an embodied performer who integrates body, voice, story and relationship to the audience. She has taught at the Royal Shakespeare Company, The National Theatre London and at Central Saint Martins University of the Arts London.
